Diving in Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve

Our diving adventure will take place in the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve; approximately 40 miles east of Punta, where 48 square miles of shallow patch reef, deep reef walls, sand flats and mangrove cayes are preserved. On the dives you will find schools of jack and spadefish along the outer reefs, while close to the bottom you will see angelfish, parrotfish and snappers. The spectacularly clear waters of the lagoon area, in the middle of the reserve, are characterized by sand and shallow seagrass beds, making the spot ideal for viewing gardens of let-tuce coral, sponge and algae that grow throughout. The Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve is home to a number of spawning fish aggregation sites that make it a prime location for Whale Sharks. The ‘official’ season is from March through to June, although Whale Sharks can be spotted throughout the year
