Come and visit our Organic Cacao farms and also discover Lubaantun the ancient Maya City.
Beginning at around 8.30 in the morning we will drive you through the pristine villages of the Toledo District to discover the 100% organic cacao farms. You will learn how the cacao tree is grown from the little seedlings to the cacao pod bearing trees. You will also find out what is involved in collecting the cacao pods that are harvested, how the fermentation process works so you end up with cacao beans and how the Mayan traditional drink is prepared. You will also learn about various plants and trees that are grown amongst the cacao trees and the mutual benefits of this association. The farmers will explain the history of the farms and the land that organic cacao is grown on. At the end of the Cacao Trail Tour, you will be served the original Mayan Cacao drink to taste the sweetness for yourself.
After the cacao trail you will enjoy a traditional Belizean lunch at Big Falls Village. After this tasty and unforgettable lunch you will continue your journey to nearby San Pedro Columbia Village, where you will discover the Mayan Temple of Lubaantun, the biggest Mayan archeological site in Southern Belize.
The City dates from the Maya Classic era, flourishing from approximately AD 730 to approximately AD 890, and seems to have been completelyabandoned shortly afterwards. The architecture is somewhat unusualcompared totypical classical central lowland Maya sites. The city ismade from 11 structures built around 5plazas. Lubaantun has been claimed to be the original location of the Crystal Skull (although that claim has some controversy around it). Explore the different temples and learn about the early inhabitants of Belize and their way of life. Lubaantun attracts many different species of birds including the toucan, Belize’s national bird, so be on the lookout forexotic wildlife while enjoying this adventurous learning experience.
